The all-night celebration of Tel Aviv’s unique culture, “Tel Aviv White Night” will take place on June 29 with over 100 free and low cost events throughout the city from dusk till dawn! The tradition began shortly after UNESCO declared Tel Aviv’s historic “White City” urban area a World Heritage site in July 2003. Ever since, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has marked UNESCO’s declaration every year with a series of White Night (Laila Lavan) celebrations and this year the municipality is expecting a million people to participate in one of the many social and celebratory events of the city.
The events take place all over the city in outdoor places, museums and local neighborhoods. Among some of the highlights are the White Night celebrations at Frishman Beach with a set of groove, soul, funk and pop covers in concert. Rabin Square will become the scene of the largest headset silent disco where the beat will come earphones and not large speakers.
There will be an exhibition of local art in the Florentine hipster neighborhood of Tel Aviv. The Latin beat will take center stage at Suzanne Dellal performing arts center with the likes of Salsa being in the spotlight in shows, street dancing and guided tours. There will be a rock concert in Gan Hapisga in Old Jaffa with local bands. Down at the Tel Aviv-Jaffa port there will be Greek and Turkish music playing and visitors may for a moment think that they have been transported to the Greek island tavernas. The show includes the biggest and best hits of the Greek singers in Israel combined with Greek classics.
